Executive Summary

The Hidden Wedding Cost Index is a source-attributed frequency Index from Wedding Wedge Research. It reviews wedding venue and wedding contract materials for hidden, conditional, and additional wedding-cost mechanisms that may affect the amount a couple ultimately pays. The authorized categories include service charges, minimum spend, overtime, premium timing, staffing, insurance, corkage, vendor-access fees, room requirements, transportation, and other supported cost conditions.

Every reported mechanism is presented with an explicit X-of-Y count and percentage. Those figures describe how often the mechanism was observed within the reviewed included source set; they are not estimates of industry-wide prevalence and should not be read as the average practice of all wedding venues or contracts. The Index does not combine currencies or produce a composite cost score.

Couples can use the Index as a question-building tool before booking or signing: it highlights wedding venue fees and wedding contract costs that may warrant confirmation in writing. “Hidden” means the exposure may not be obvious from a headline price. It does not inherently mean deceptive, illegal, unfair, or undisclosed.

Each included source is coded once per authorized mechanism. A source contributes at most once to a mechanism numerator; the final included-source count is the denominator. Percentages are deterministic and rounded to one decimal. NOT_OBSERVED is not treated as OBSERVED_FALSE. No composite score or cross-currency aggregation is calculated.

Limitations

The corpus is purposive and does not represent the wedding industry. Source currency and version cautions are retained. Frequencies describe mechanisms in reviewed material, not typical prices, average costs, or all venue practices.

Legal-information boundary

This Index describes cost mechanisms observed in reviewed public contract materials. “Hidden” does not inherently mean deceptive, illegal, undisclosed, unfair, or predatory, and the Index does not determine legal validity or enforceability.
